mason and in the same day being able to hear kila and angela mcnamera. it was a sonic history lesson in a day. the best thing was, you could talk to any of the people who were there and you could have that history lesson expanded for you. being able to interact with folks like photographer karen rich, who is sitting in the audience right now, being able to interact with kong on his album, bridge across the blue, these events i really don't think that can be taken lightly. for urban american indians we have powwow which are intertribal events that revolve around a shared repertoire of songs and dances like some of the singing you have heard me do here today. it's a time for people to be able to come together, not for the casinos, not for that part. talk about fighting stereotypes, that's a stereotype for us. yes, we have casinos, but that all of our culture? no. it's not all we are here to be defined by. for most people, especially in urban areas, powwows are places to go to reconnect. powwows are places you go to see people you haven't seen in a long tim

artist in san francisco and have been on transportation since 1970 and used to live in jefferson and mason and walked down to the agency 'em cafe before it was a pier 39 and sat in the lumbar i can't remember the regard and i recognize how much this city has changed since then and it has made it one of the most remarkable water fronts and it certainly was not back then and i believe the street artists add a tremendous amount of vitality to this city and i'm also happy to be asked and answered question and is we get a dozen of them each day and when i'm across the street i love "where is market street," where is the ferry building," i can't tell you how many times i have been asked that question and i'm alms happy to point them in the right direction. we make our own crafts and think that we represent something unique and different and something special to the tourists that visit this time and the people that live and work here and i would say that 70% of my customers live and work here in san francisco and so with that, i conclude and thank you for your consideration. >> debra king and the

our headquarters, fort mason, was the fisherman's wharf area was the port of embarkation for the wars in the pacific. just this week we brought in a world war ii 16-inch bottle ship gun to the marine head lands to put it up at battery townsly which would have been the pinnacle of coastal artillery in world war ii. so, we now have a canon or artillery collection that spans in our park that spans from the civil war to the cold war, including a preserve 19-missile base. some of you also know that during the 1906 earthquake, the army assisted greatly in the response to the city's needs. and the public flocked to the open lands at golden gate park and at the presidio, the open areas that they had there. the army provided tents and food for them during that transition period. all of our planning indicates that that probably would happen again if we had a big one. they probably would be coming to the lands that we now manage. so, what is the park services' connection to all of this? we have our centennial of our organization coming up in 2016 in four years, and we feel what we believe are am
